I remember the First time I heard of JIT was in 1994. A good concept that should be utilized more often.

Very interesting post!

I am fascinated by your observations on Muda, and how it involves production, materials, etc. I continue to learn a lot through your posts about the Toyota system. Thanks so much!

'Just in time' certainly does make sense - we should all be using our precious time more effectively - in business and in our personal lives. Great analogy (would love to taste your dad's cooking).

I can not understand how Lean Manufacturing is not compulsory in todays climate, I feel part of the reason is that management does not understand manufacturing
operations and that they come from a background based in accountancy and other non manufacturing MBA courses. I say this after having 15 years training Lean Manufacturing in the UK and that includes Multi National Companies both from Europe and USA.

I have to agree with you. Too much of our effort is usually spent on pointless and non productive things. With JIT, we can provide what the customer needs no sooner and no later than when he/she needs it.

I liked your analogy between your dad's cooking and lean process. It made it easier to understand.
